SAGARME

Also known as Arame. Brownish-yellowish brown algae. When dry, it has an intense black color. Mucilaginous, with a lot of alginate and fucoidan.

Utilities

  • Omega-3 and Omega-6.
  • High content of fucoidan (anticancer agent, retroviral, immune booster).
  • Protein, vitamins; A, B1, B2, iodine, calcium, iron, mannitol, etc.
  • Taste: after the direct bite of salt (when dry) it can confuse our taste buds by making us believe that we are eating something somewhat sweet, due to its mannitol load.
  • It is somewhat reminiscent of nopal, in texture.
  • Flavor: similar to asparagus, but also black pepper.
  • At the end it leaves a trace of its tannic charge in the mouth.
  • Uses: to thicken soups or as an addition to broths, garnish, in preserves, among others.
  • Seaweed cultivated and harvested directly from the coasts of Baja California Mexico.
